An almost perfectly round piece of mixed plum and off-white sea glass from England set in our Original Wire Bezel© pendant setting in 14K goldfilled.
Great VERY OLD antique sea glass from the coast of England. From a site in England where an Victorian era glass manufacturer would toss scraps over the cliff at the End Of The Day, and this fascinating piece is the result. Typically very thick and round as they were never made into an end product.
This is a highly rare color combination even for this amazing rare sea glass. The plum color swirls freely inside the off white base, making this artist believe is was once a pontil or punty rod used in glass making. The plum or purple is the color of the object that was being worked in the kiln. The off-white color was the glass that "tipped" the pontil rod and was discarded when the object was finished. Purple is considered a Royal color as commoners were not allowed to wear or own things in this shade.
